W was coming to town. (no, not Bush)  Edge Group and Starwood's 'W Hotel' brand of chic-modern-hip-ultra cool resorts has confirmed that they have cancelled their plans of building a 4000-room resort and casino at the NE corner of Harmon and Koval.

The plan included 4000 rooms, a 75,000 sq. ft. casino and the usual clubs, 300,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, restaurants, spa and shops. $2.5 Billion was the reported price tag for this project.
 

 
      Highlights of the $2.5-billion project were to include:

• A mix of approximately 4,000 hotel and residential units
• 20+ destination dining and nightlife outlets
• World-class retail shops
• 75,000-square foot casino
• 100,000-square foot Fred Segal store
• Bliss Spa & Gym
• 300,000 square feet of meeting space

News  5/12/07  W Hotel Canceled

News  6/26/06  M.J. Dean Construction has been named general contractor of the 24.5-acre W Las Vegas Hotel, Casino and Residences project . Also named to the project are Klai Juba Architects, Lacina Heitler Architects and Charles Allem Designs.

News  6/5/06   Edge Resorts purchased the 25-acre Las Ramblas site, to the east of their W Hotel project.  The acquisition gives Edge 49.5 total acres to develop. Edge East is the working name for the new, separate project.  Edge East will be a mixed use project with several boutique hotels and a casino. The Project will enhance their W Hotel property next door. This gives Edge a 2,200-foot (0.4 mile) frontage on the Harmon Corridor.  See Map Below.

News  5/16/06   Edge Resorts and Starwood Hotels (owners of  W Hotels) have acquired some more land from D. R. Horton, increasing the size of the W Hotel property (see map image below).
   

News  3/01/06   Rising building costs in Las Vegas have smoothed out the curves of the W's original design (seen below). The new look (left) is still fresh and modern.

News  12/01/05  The Latest news is that there will be a condo/hotel aspect to the W Hotel. Additional towers may be in the plans. The latest plans promise striking architecture, exhilarating nightlife, multiple restaurants, and a destination spa. The development will be the brand’s first property with a casino.
