Greek Isles

The new owners of the Greek Isles have submitted a proposal to the Clark County Planning Commission for a new resort on the property.

The plan would require imploding the existing resort. The proposal is for a resort with 2 high-rise towers. The first tower is 310 feet and contains the resorts 780 hotel rooms. The second tower is 180 feet, located along Debbie Reynolds Drive and Desert Inn Road, and contains a parking structure with guest amenities and a pool deck on the roof.

The resort will also include 77,016-sq. ft. casino and 71,200 square feet of restaurant, retail and meeting space.

There was no mention of a timeline or name change.

Approval is pending.

The existing hotel opened in 1970 as the Paddlewheel which was later named The Royal Inn.  Debbie Reynolds bought it in 1993 and renamed it Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Hotel.  In 1998 it was purchased by the World Wrestling Federation who had plans to build a WWF hotel with a large arena for matches.  In 1999 Convention Center Drive LLC bought the property and renamed it Convention Center Drive Hotel and Casino.  They remodeled and renamed it Greek Isles Hotel and Casino in 2001.  The new owners (GIH-SPE II  LLC) bought the property in July of 2007 for $48.85 million.

The existing Greek Isles has 207 rooms, a 7,000-square foot casino and only one restaurant.

The project will be in the center of the hotbed of new development
